In 2016, my Lexi, a cocker aged 13, had a sonogram which revealed garbage in her gall bladder, growth on her adrenal gland, a kidney stone, thickening of the intestinal wall, high liver enzymes, among other issues. Dr. Rafael Fontanez advised not to send her to internists/specialists as they would cut her open and remove anything that looked suspicious which he believed she could not survive and if she did she would be a 24/7 constant care pet for the remainder of her unpleasant life. He began treating her with oral medications revealed thru his research of issues she had. Lexi began to recover and bounced back with one exception which required 3 days of IV and more research into what foods she could tolerate and would eat. She came back to me in 5 days like the dog I knew so well. I had my beautiful black & white parti girl for 2 more glorious years until her liver finally failed her which we suspected would be her final demise. Through it all, we assumed that she was riddled with cancer. Her demise was short-lived and just as Dr. Fontanez warned, Lexi would let me know when she was ready as she would stop eating. I am deeply indebted to Dr. Fontanez for his delicate care of my girl, his wise wisdom going forward once she was diagnosed, and I am forever grateful that he gave me two more glorious years with her.
