Before I found the Highlands, I had brought my pit bull mix to 2 other vets, 1 of whom spent the entire appointment lecturing me on the dangers of pit bulls. No thanks!
I found the Highlands in 2009 and will never go anywhere else. Everyone on the staff truly loves what they do. They are compassionate and understanding. Not once has anyone there called my dog a menace or been afraid to treat him because of his breed.
Now that my boy is a senior dog, every appointment is done to maximize his comfort. Exams are done on the floor (on the soft bed that we bring with us) and all visits include lots of petting, head scratches, treats, and gentle voices. The office has implemented a fear-free program with soothing music and pheromones, and yes, pet parents can take CDs of the music home.
Recently, my boy had to have surgery. I broke down when I was told and everyone went out of their way to help me with hugs and tissues and kind words. They took phenomenal post-op care of my dog and even let him recover with all the comforts of home.
it's been almost 10 years since we found this office, and even though I live several towns away now, I still make the 30-minute drive to the Highlands instead of finding a local vet--that's how much I love this place!
