last night I brought my dying cat Belle to the Veterinary Emergency Group Clifton location. I was crying my eyes out. First, they wanted to pull her out of her carrier by force, until I stopped them and said I will take care out gently because I don't want her to suffer. Then they were trying to find her vein. Two nurses kept poking her and subjecting her to a lot of discomfort and unnecessary pain and then they gave up. then they put us in a "private room" and left us there. Bella (my cat) now in my arms dying and making noises. After a while a nurse comes in with paperwork when at the same time Belle was pronouncing her last breath. The nurse thought Bella was about to vomit but I told her that she is dying not puking. She carries her and puts her on the table and while I am in deep sorrow and grief, she makes me sign the papers to make sure they get their payments. I did, because I was in a different world at that point. A second later, Bella started kicking uncontrollably for half and a minute and immediately with her eyes open she died and was completely still: no breathing and no movement and no sound whatsoever. Finally, the doctor comes in in a hurry now, and tries to convince me that my completely still motionless cold cat with her eyes wide open is not dead and that her heart is still beating faintly. I ask for the stethoscope and try to listen to her heart beat but I hear nothing. The doctor knew I was in a state where I am not going to argue, so he runs to get her the Euthanasia injection before I could realize or be sure that she is already dead. Before I know it he injected her in the heart and as soon as he pulled the needle out he pronounced her dead. All this for $197.65.
I cannot believe he treated me like a fool and took advantage of me when I am in such a state. What a shame!
