My wife and I are pet parents to a housefull of dogs and cats. So as you can imagine, we pay a lot of visits to our vet, Dr. Amir Shanan. He's wonderful at all the things a vet should be, like yearly exams and dentals, but he has a special skill in his repertoire - his extraordinary compassion and his end-of-life guidance and pet hospice care. While it's stuff a lot of people don't like to talk about, when the time comes to say goodbye, it's a relief having him there. When my dog Lorenzo was near his last days, he went above and beyond, providing hospice care to our dying friend. He offers "comfort rooms" at his facility, so pet parents can stay with their pet through its final hours. His 24/7 support and finally, his gentle manner when it was time to say goodbye made for a peaceful and much bearable situation. I cannot recommend him enough as the "Best Vet", because sooner or later we all have to say goodbye to our furry friends, and having someone like Dr. Shanan guide you on this journey makes all the difference in the world. Here is more information on the wonderful hospice care he offers: http://compassionatevet.com/veterinary/veterinary-hospice-chicago-illinois.php

In addition to being a wonderful doctor, what makes Dr. Shanan so special is his gift in helping pet parents say goodbye to their beloved pets. His ability to council his clients through the decision-making process, along with offering peaceful, at-home euthanasia, were a godsend to my husband and I. It takes a truly special person to assist a pet guardian with this aspect of pet parenting, and he fills the bill to a "t". Had it not been for his compassion, his guidance and his wisdom during this time in our lives, we would've been completely lost. He made a difficult situation bearable. I do hope you consider his gifts in your "Best Vet" Contest, because they are truly one-of-a-kind. Best regards, Lori Neumann
