we brought our two pet chicks to be in sweetwater and want to start with our annul check up. Both of my chicks are frizzle which we raised 4.5 year. Since the primary owner was on maternal leave, we started with associate doctor- Dr. Glatfelter. the night before our visit on 5/30, one of my chicks eat quick lot of Japanese beetles and drank water too quickly, and started to vomiting water together with insects on the early morning when we heading to see Dc. Glatfelter. She checked our 2 chicks and since the vomiting chick was doing well so nothing was rushed but she dedicated to discuss the service charge and told us that she wants to sedation both birds- one for checking whether water is in lung or not, and the other one for blood work. we seriously told her that based on our limited experience in seeing exotic animal doctor in Auburn university, it is high risk to sedate birds especially he is not breathing well, but she insisted that without seeing X-ray results, she could not do any judgment. we asked her if we could hold bird so they could use X-Ray and she said no. 30 mins later, a guy came to me to say that my bird is dying soon since his condition all of sudden turned to worse, and I asked whether doc could diagnose him. the guy clearly told us that doc could not sedate him since he is dying. Another 10 mins Dr. Glatfelter came out and told us to say goodbye to our bird with saying that she could not do any sedation to diagnose him. and when we backed to waiting room, Dr. Glatfelter's assistant told us that our bird's eyes is dropping water due to sedation which lead to his breathless. we felt very confused and first we decided to put his down to get him less suffering. when we back home later, we looked at the charge, there is clearly shows that there is a sedation charge. on 5/31/2024 when we obtained the work report, it shows that Dr. Glatfelter sedated my bird for 10 mins which lead to his death.
I am very upset and disappointed with her behavior and had a call with her on 5/31/2024 with expressing my concerns 1) her poor professional judgment with using sedation for a bird has respiratory issue, and 2) her dishonest behavior with lying to us the fact that the sedation leads to the death of our pet. after 30 mins talk, she said 'I have liability insurance to cover myself". what a shame for a doctor saying this inappropriate words in such sad time and what a shame to have a vet like this to treat our best companion in the world.
