Our 7 month-old 80lb cane corso puppy, Cleo, who had cherry eyes in both eyes. The procedure was explained to my husband and I that if the eye pops back out naturally we would have to pay again which we agreed to. We paid them over $2000 dollars to do the surgery for both eyes. We got the surgery done on a Thursday and when we picked Cleo up she was heavily sedated. She was groggy on Friday, but after the sedation completely wore off on Saturday, Cleo started doing everything to get the cone off of her head which caused one of her eyes to pop back out. We called them and explained to them what happened and was told to come in on Tuesday. However, I called on Monday morning to see if we could come in immediately instead. When we went back on Monday I had to ask them for sedatives to keep Cleo calm while her other eye healed. When asked why we didn’t receive the medication from the start they said its not common practice, and that it was a judgement call. I spoke to the office manager who was less than helpful and she said that we would have to pay again (approx. $900) since her eye popped back out naturally which was incorrect. My husband and I even asked to speak to the owner, thinking he would be more reasonable and would work with us, given the situation, but he read from the same office script and refused to work with us. He ‘agreed to disagree,’ saying it popped out naturally, so we would have to pay again. Immediately after talking to him, I requested Cleo’s file and in their own report they wrote that “Cleo’s e-collar was completely destroyed and the suture was gone, so most likely she was too active and was somehow able to damage the surgery site.”
