Jack Stephens - Founder

Dr. Jack Stephens, a veterinarian and co-founder of Pets Best, is most notably known for establishing the pet insurance industry in North America. A well-known animal advocate and graduate of the University of Missouri, Jack says his favorite part of being the founder of Pets Best is being able to help pets receive the best in care.

After departing his first pet insurance company, Jack’s driving passion to improve the pet insurance industry, combined with his desire to provide pet owners with a higher level of coverage, led to the creation of Pets Best.

Recently announcing his semi-retirement Jack plans to add a little more travel, hiking, biking, and rounds of golf to his daily activities. Jack shares his home with multiple dogs, two cats and several horses. His leadership and experience make him our very own Captain Jack.

Greg McDonald - Chief Executive Officer

With nearly 35 years of experience in the insurance industry, Greg brings a wealth of knowledge to Pets Best. A graduate of University of Idaho, Greg served as an officer in the U.S. Navy before beginning his insurance career in Denver and eventually moving to Boise.

As founder of InsurServ, today the largest complement of HUB International’s Northwest Division, and as Executive Vice President of General Fire & Casualty Company, Greg brings his experience and passion and has been a major force in Pets Best's quick success. His upbeat personality and unparalleled energy level keep us excited about what's happening next for Pets Best.

His favorite thing about being CEO at Pets Best is helping employees grow and contribute to the company’s successes. When Greg isn’t in the office he enjoys hiking, skiing, and golfing.

Chris L. Middleton - President

Chris joined Pets Best in 2010 as marketing director, making his way through several roles prior to being named President in August 2014. His favorite thing about working for Pets Best is being in the pet health industry and the size and dynamic nature of the company where you can have a real impact every day working with great people.

Prior to joining Pets Best, Middleton spent 18 years in the technology field at Hewlett-Packard. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Oregon and is a certified public accountant. Outside of work, Chris and his wife of more than 26 years enjoy walking their dogs and traveling. Chris also enjoys woodworking, fitness and taking his motorcycle out on the open road.

Chris learned the need for pet insurance when his previous dog, Guido, needed emergency surgery. The decision to pay $3800 was difficult with many trade-offs involved. Now that all his four-legged family members are insured, he takes comfort in knowing he and his vet can make the best medical decisions possible.

Chief Financial Officer
Dave Cooper, CPA, CVA - Chief Financial Officer

As Pets Best CFO, Dave manages high level financial relationships with investors, insurance companies, law firms, our CPA firm, and banks. He helped establish and maintains an incentive employee ownership program, and works diligently to increase stakeholder values.

After graduating from Boise State University, Dave managed his own regional CPA firm in Idaho, in addition to owning and managing several Idaho businesses. Over his 40+ year career, he has assisted more than 20 private businesses establish active private ownership opportunities for key employees, similar to the one established for Pets Best.

Dave’s favorite thing about working at Pets Best is its very strong and talented team; sharing common goals, values, principles and work ethic to improve the lives of pets and pet owners.

When he’s not traveling with his wife, Dave also enjoys fishing, golfing and spending time with family.

Vice President Business Development
Donna Cejalvo - Vice President Business Development

Donna is originally from Vancouver, BC where she earned a Marketing degree from Simon Fraser University. After moving to the Treasure Valley, she sought a position and industry that she truly loves. As the Director of Partner Programs, Donna works closely with veterinary hospitals, employer groups, insurance agents and other strategic marketing partners to help pet owners understand the value and benefits of protecting their pets with pet insurance.

Being a part of a company that helps pet parents afford life-saving veterinary care for their beloved pets is what Donna loves most about her job at Pets Best. The work environment is a close second with her coworkers (furry four-legged ones included) making the workplace more enjoyable.

In the summer you can find Donna, her husband Gary, and their two dogs enjoying the summer sun in their boat. If not on the water, Donna enjoys cooking for family and friends, going on mountain motorcycle rides with Gary, golfing, and hanging out with her puppies.

Claims Manager
Audry Clark - Claims Manager

As the Pets Best claims supervisor, Audry’s job is to ensure that all claims are processed as quickly and accurately as possible.

She enjoys working for Pets Best because every day is different from the last. Being able to utilize her veterinary knowledge and experience without the biting and scratching that comes along with being in a clinic, is another reason why Audry appreciates working for Pets Best.

Audry attended Colorado Mountain College and was accepted into the veterinary technology program. She passed the VTNE state board exam and earned her certification of veterinary technology. Audry worked in the veterinary field for 10 years, and has experience with feline only, specialty, emergency and general practice.

Appreciating the beautiful outdoors of the northwest, Audry enjoys camping, rafting, hiking, and fishing. She also takes her dogs out for a day trip in the woods so they're able to run around and breathe in that fresh mountain air.

Vice President Information Systems
Paul Crane - Vice President Information Systems

Paul poured concrete to put himself through college, which may be a clue to why he's so devoted to making sure our technology is rock solid.

He earned a BBS in Computer Information Systems from Idaho State University and worked as a programmer/business analyst for 5 years before becoming the Technology Manager at Pets Best. Here, he works hard to ensure the continued functionality of the Pets Best website as well as our internal system development and maintenance.

When he isn't caring for our technology, he cares for his family, including his wife and two sons. Somehow, he also carves out time to run, mountain bike in the beautiful Boise foothills, participate in triathlons and he strikes fear in the hearts of his fantasy football opponents.

Vice President Customer Experience and Sales
Alex Fascilla - Vice President Customer Experience and Sales

Alex is responsible for coordinating strategic marketing initiatives, optimizing inbound sales and web enrollment opportunities, and compiling meaningful data that aids our team in the decision making process.

His favorite thing about working for Pets Best is the fresh set of challenges that accompany each day. When’s he not at the office providing comic relief, he’s busy photographing his travels, riding his motorcycle, camping, hiking, playing basketball, skiing, wakeboarding, playing drums, fantasy footballing, renovating his home, or just relaxing at his cabin on the lake.

After graduating from the University of Idaho, Alex worked for two Boise start-up companies before joining Pets Best in 2010. He accredits both previous positions with helping him become data-driven and highly analytical in addition to learning he belongs in a small company.

Vice President Marketing
Walter Haugland - Vice President Marketing

Walter serves as the Vice President of Marketing for Pets Best, working across all aspects of the online customer experience. He started as the Director of Ecommerce in 2015. Prior to joining Pets Best he worked for a mobile app startup, and before that he spent 7 years at Expedia managing various lines of business, including travel insurance. Walter has his MBA from Seattle University, and an undergraduate degree in International Studies from the University of Washington.

The thing that he enjoys the most about his work is seeing how much everyone at Pets Best cares about customers and strives to do what is best for our pet parents. That, and bringing his 5 year old lab Pepper to work everyday. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the mountains around Boise running, mountain biking, and skiing. 

General Counsel
Jared Hight - General Counsel

Jared comes to us after more than a decade in veterinary nursing and hospital administration. Born in Ontario and raised outside Seattle, he made his way to Boise in 1999 and has been with Pets Best since before we officially launched in 2005. Jared says he’s grateful for the chance to join Pets Best on the ground floor, and have a part in the growth and success through the years.

A Boise State graduate, Jared spends his time focused on designing, implementing and improving the claims processing procedures as well as ensuring Pets Best complies with all state and federal laws.

When he isn't at work making sure that our policyholders are having their claims processed in the quickest and most efficient manner possible, he enjoys spending time with his family.

Human Resources Manager
Sharon Kimball - Human Resources Manager

Some would say Sharon is in charge, because in some respects she does it all. Her responsibilities include all HR duties, group policy administration, licensing, and a host of other small tasks that no one else wants to do.

Sharon graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Human Resource Management then spent several years in banking. From there, she worked in various human resources and accounting roles.

Although cats are her preference, she does have one dog in addition to her Bengal cat mix. When she’s not in the office, Sharon enjoys mountain biking, hiking, flying, gardening, and camping.

IT and Operations Manager
Patrick Schneider - IT and Operations Manager

In addition to heading up the operations team, Patrick is in charge of making sure our servers and computers are up to date and running smoothly. For those in the office who aren’t as fluent in technology, he’s the favorite coworker among many.

A graduate of the University of Idaho, he has been a part of the Pets Best team since the beginning in 2005. Patrick enjoys his coworkers and credits the stress-free work environment to the many dogs that show up to work every day.

Patrick appreciates the great outdoors and on his days off can be found camping, skiing, biking, hiking, and fishing.

Tracie O'Neal - Controller

As the Pets Best Controller, Tracie administers accounting functions and manages company assets. Tracie graduated from Valley Commercial College, majoring in Accounting, and joined the Pets Best team in 2016 after working for over 10 years at 5.11 Tactical as a Senior Accountant.

Tracie loves being able to work for Pets Best because of the great team atmosphere, and the love and support that both have in common for pets.

When Tracie isn't at work, she enjoys spending time volunteering at local animal shelters, traveling, learning to garden, enjoying the many outdoor recreation opportunities in Idaho, and caring for her three dogs, Holli, Phoebe, and Lucy, and three cats, TJ, Claribel, and Mama.
