Where It All Began, More than 20 Years Ago

Like all good stories, ours starts with a pet.
After witnessing a family forced to make a heartbreaking decision about their dog’s care due to financial limitations, our founder, Dr. Jack Stephens, knew something had to change. He dedicated his life to making veterinary care more accessible, so no pet parent would have to choose between their finances and their pet’s life.
His vision became reality when he introduced North America's first pet insurance policy in 1981, with the iconic TV dog Lassie receiving the very first policy in 1982.
Building on this foundation, Pets Best was born in 2005 with an unwavering mission: Pets are family, and they deserve care without compromise.
