The following items, sometimes excluded by other pet insurance companies, are covered under your regular BestBenefit plan. They will be reimbursed at your choice of 70%, 80%, 90% or 100%, after a deductible, up to your plan’s maximum benefit. To further compare pet insurance coverage, see a complete list of what’s covered on our BestBenefit Plan Information page.
Exam fees
When your pet is seen by a licensed veterinarian anywhere in the world for covered accidents and illnesses.
Prescription medications
Please see our list of covered medications.
Pre-anesthesia tests
Veterinarians typically require pre-anesthetic blood work to be performed before a pet’s surgery.
Prosthetic devices and wheel chairs
When prescribed or provided by a licensed veterinarian to treat a covered accident or illness.
Hydrotherapy and physical therapy
When provided by a licensed veterinarian to treat a covered accident or illness.
Accidents that occur while hunting or in service
Cruciate injuries if the pet has pre-existing injury on opposite leg
We consider each cruciate injury as a separate incident. This means that if your pet injures his left cruciate ligament, we won’t consider later injury of the right ligament to be pre-existing as long as it occurs after the cruciate coverage waiting period.
Consistent coverage regardless of spay or neuter status
We offer the same coverage and benefits regardless of whether your pet has been spayed or neutered. Some companies will not provide accident coverage for a pet hit by a car, or injured in a dog fight, if that pet is not spayed or neutered. In addition, when you compare pet insurance options, you may learn that others exclude medical coverage for hormonal conditions and conditions affecting reproductive organs if a pet is not spayed or neutered.
Ongoing/chronic conditions
When your policy renews, we don’t consider previously covered conditions to be pre-existing. This means your pet will still be covered up to your plan’s maximum per incident benefit, even if treatment spans many months or years. Compare pet insurance companies and you'll see that others may exclude or charge extra for this coverage.
Older pets
We have no upper age limits for pets and we don’t reduce or cancel coverage based on your pet’s age. Some insurance companies may not insure pets over age 8 and even as young as 5 for certain breeds.
Behavioral conditions
We cover behavioral consults with, and/or medication prescribed by, a licensed veterinarian.
Acupuncture and chiropractic treatments
Our plans include limited coverage for acupuncture and chiropractic treatments administered by a licensed veterinarian.
Hereditary conditions
Some coverage for hereditary conditions is included if the pet is enrolled before age 2, subject to a separate annual deductible. Please see our short list of hereditary conditions.
Pregnancy
Our plans include coverage for pregnancy for most breeds. Please see our list of breeds not covered for pregnancy.
Euthanasia and cremation
Our plans cover cremation costs as well as euthanasia for humane reasons.
Coverage while traveling with your pet
Your pet can be treated by any licensed veterinarian anywhere in the world.
