Top 14 Best Dog Names

Pets Best Insurance has already brought you some laughs by listing the funniest cat names, but what about the top dog names? As a practicing veterinarian, I’ve compiled a list of the top 14 most comical dog names I’ve ever heard!

1) Doogie Schnauzer M.D.
This little Schnauzer was actually very intelligent; he was just missing opposable thumbs to write his prescriptions.

2) Mr. Pickles Pepper
I can’t explain why, but every time I hear the name Mr. Pickles, it just makes me laugh. Especially when it is a little Chihuahua with the last name ‘Pepper’.

3) Farticus
Unfortunately, this dog was named after the owners got to know him first.

4) The Fonz
The owner of this dog actually looked like Fonzie! The dog looked a lot like his drooling counterpart. This 120-pound Newfoundland certainly had the hair to match the look.

The Tiny, Snuggly Bed Hogger

It always amazes me how we tolerate little annoyances from our pets that we would never tolerate from our spouse or another human.

If my wife edges to my side of the bed while asleep, I’ll nudge her back– yet I become a contortionist, even to the point of being uncomfortable, to avoid disturbing Torrey, my tiny Chihuahua! But I suppose that’s just how pet lovers and pet insurance enthusiasts behave with their pets.

Why do we yield to our animals this way? Torrey, short for “little Tornado,” hogs the bed, snores, insists on me petting her at inconvenient times and generally dictates what I should do and when I should do it. Even when I grow annoyed at her demands, she keeps insisting, and I end up complying.

How To: Six Part Grooming

We all want our pets to look and smell their best.’Grooming’ should involve more than just hair coat maintenance and all breeds, including cats, can benefit from it. Regular grooming, especially teeth brushing, is important for overall health. Most grooming routines can be done at home with a little know-how, practice and patience. How often grooming is necessary can be variable depending on your pet’s breed and lifestyle. For example, most cats don’t require regular bathing at all, but some dogs can require weekly bathing to stay odor free. Here are some tips for keeping your pet’s appearance in tip-top shape:

1. Pearly Whites
This is probably the trickiest part of a regular grooming routine. Many pets don’t care for it, and brushing can take time and patience. When just starting out, keep it fun and short. Allow your pet to sniff and chew on the toothbrush and taste the toothpaste. Use lots of praise and rewards. Gradually lengthen the time you spend actually brushing as your pet gets used to it. Always use a dog or cat formulated toothpaste, as our toothpaste is toxic to pets.
